Faduma Ali’s journey from a struggling street vendor to a successful entrepreneur is truly inspiring. Before joining Better Hope Community Development TVET Centre, Faduma worked in a small coffee and tea shop in the bustling streets of Baidoa. The income she earned was $1.2 per day, barely enough to cover her basic needs and she longed for a better future. 

Determined to change her situation, Faduma got the opportunity to enroll in the beauty services course at Better Hope TVET Centre. With the skills she acquired and the confidence she gained, she completed the course and was provided with start-up kits through support from COOPI and funded by UNHCR. This enabled her to start her own beauty service business from her home. 

Today, Faduma is running a thriving beauty salon. Her home has transformed into a great hub where women in her neighborhood come for hairdressing, facials and other beauty treatments. With a growing number of clients, Faduma is now earning a substantial income of $8 – $13 per day, far more than she ever imagined. Some occasions like Eid days, she might earn $40 – $50 per day. She has not only improved her own life but also serves as an inspiration to other young women in Baidoa proving that with the right skills and determination, one can overcome even the toughest challenges.
